New features and benefits in Darkroom Core and Pro 9.3
Support for remove.bg
Remove.bg is a third party service that will remove the background of any photo with or without green screen. It works 100% automatically: You don’t have to manually select the background/foreground layers to separate them – just select your image and instantly download the result image with the background removed. Remove.bg is a great solution for problem images such as the random green dress at the prom. The service does require an internet connection. See how to use the remove.bg feature here. Click here to try it for yourself, you will be amazed.
Drag and drop auto insert green screen image placement in panoramic and multi-image templates
In previous versions, panoramic and other multi-image templates had to be built with the correct number of photo nodes to match the number of subjects. For example if you had a sports template with 11 nodes and a team comes along with 12 players you had to edit the template and add another photo node or more as needed. Now just create all templates with a single photo node, drag and drop green screen images as needed and Darkroom will add new duplicate photo nodes as needed. You can also select 2 or more green screen images in the film bar in the Photo Workshop and choose “Insert selected” and those will be added automatically and spaced accordingly in the template. See how to use this feature here.
Auto camera detection
Previous versions required navigating to the setup tab to choose the camera brand and in the case of Nikon the actual model from a very long list of supported cameras. Now Darkroom automatically detects the camera connected and it works with no setup required.
Command hot folder adds template and text addition
Darkroom will monitor a hot folder for an image and a text file with the same file name. The text file may contain information to specify instructions such as template, print size and quantity. This is useful for large high volume operations. Available in Darkroom Pro only.
Support for Photoshop droplet
A droplet is an executable file generated by Photoshop that allows you to apply a set of actions just by dragging and dropping files or folders on to it. This is a great time saver when you have to apply the same action to a lot of files! You can now add a Photoshop droplet to a template for special effects and filters. See how to use droplets with Darkroom here.
Activation codes for for Darkroom Pro
Eliminates the need to order and ship a hardware key (dongle) enabling instant delivery. Especially important to our customers outside the US where shipping can take 1 to 2 weeks and require customs and duty expenses.
Camera Control
Adjust camera settings from within the software without having to access the camera itself. More info and video tutorial here.
RAW + JPEG
Save Raw images on the camera while sending manageable jpeg files to Darkroom. Not only does this provide you with a Raw file for backup but since the image file is on the camera card you can now review images on the camera even though you are tethered. This opens up lots of possibilities for new camera set up scenarios at large photography events, corporate activations, and for sports and group photography.
Darkroom email server
Now you can use the new Darkroom email server instead of third party providers such as gmail and yahoo when delivering photos via email with Darkroom Core and Pro software. While all great email services, sometimes these providers can be glitchy when it comes to providing solid service at high volume photographic related events due to passwords, ports and security settings. Using the Darkroom email server can help avoid issues at your next event and it is reliable and easy to set up. Learn more here.
Postmark integration
If you are looking for a more professional and robust email photo delivery system for your event photography business take a look at the new Postmark option now available in Darkroom Core and Pro 9.3. Postmark is an email delivery service designed for high volume, professional transactional emails. Perfect for delivering photos to your customers phone or computer inbox. Postmark is a third party paid subscription service, learn more here.
Built in support for the Fujifilm ASK 300
The Fujifilm ASK 300 is a robust dye-sub printer great for on-site printing at all your photography events. Built-in support means plug and play ease with Darkroom Software. Learn more about the Fujifilm ASK 300 printer here.
Support added for new Canon cameras
EOS R3
PowerShot G5X Mark II
PowerShot G7X Mark III
PowerShot SX70 HS – we will be adding more features in the coming weeks.
Entagged integration
The Entagged is a small device that connects to the side of your camera. It is manufactured in Germany by Foolography. When paired with Darkroom Core or Pro it provides a compelling, time-saving workflow solution for schools, groups, large scale events and other photography applications. Click here to learn more about how to save time and money with this automated workflow.
Just getting started. More features will follow in the next few weeks.
Hi Wally,
Will the 9.3 upgrade only allow administrator to delete orders from order history? Current version still gives access to users with their own login to pro server to have access to delete orders.
I’m curious: I own two keys to Core 9.2. How do I go about upgrading the keys, as I use them interchangeably with multiple computers ( both desktops and laptops.)
Please advise. Thanks.
Clem Webb
Hi Clem,
To upgrade your dongles simply contact our support team at [email protected] or call 214-390-3258
Thanks for using Darkroom software!
Are you planning to add support for the Nikon D7500?
Hi Tommy, the Nikon D7500 is supported.
Hi Wally,
Hope you’re swell!
Just checking when you guys will be making virtual props a reality? This will work great with the current pandemic as it will help remove physical touching of props.
Thane
Hi Thane,
Virtual props are an option for Darkroom Booth. For Darkroom Core and Pro it is possible to add png files as an “overlay”. You can size and move the files to create the effect you are looking for. Please contact [email protected] if you need assistance.
I have version 9.20.2392. Is this a purchase upgrade, for free?
Hi Lou, it depends on whether you are still on your maintenance plan. Contact our support team and they can look it up for you. [email protected]
If we have dongles can we stay with dongles? Much prefer if we have a day of crash and need to swap PC’s.
Hi Steve, yes, you can stick with dongles. Contact support if you are interested in upgrading your dongle. If you want to purchase one contact one of our dealers listed on this page https://darkroomsoftware.com/products/core9-3
Hi, my name is Jovan Harvey. i wanted to know how quickly does the new darkroom cut out the background and allow me to set it up on another background on location.
I haven’t seen any info regarding the Nikon D6. Is it supported in the update?
Darkroom Software will detect the Nikon D6 and capture images, but Nikon made a change recently that causes an issue with LiveView. We are working with Nikon to resolve.
Whene you added Dnp Qw410 ?
The Qw410 can be used with the Windows driver.
Hi Wally- Great news!!! Is the green screen mode updated and are there any videos on how the new features work? Can I now use png’s?
Hi Len, Wally and the support team are working on new feature videos. Keep an eye on our YouTube channel.
When you say “more to come” is that just listing them out here or you have more updates after the update?
Hi Mike, When we say more to come we mean that more features will be added to Darkroom version 9.3 in the coming weeks and months.
Does the new upgrade support the canon powershot 200sx
Hi Dana, are you referring to the Canon Powershot SX200? That is a dated point and shoot camera, and no, Darkroom does not support a direct connection with it.
Are you planning an update for Assembly?
Hello Simon,
9.3 is available for Assembly as well. Darkroom Assembly software and upgrade is available from our partner Desktop Darkroom. Please visit their website or call (904) 398-9934
Does this new 9.3 upgrade in core still support the Mitsubishi d90 printers.
checked your website and this printer is not on your list ?
Hi Michael, yes, the Mitsubishi CP-D90DW is supported. It is on the supported hardware page here. Also, just a reminder that virtually any printer can be used with Darkroom as long as the printer has a Windows print driver.
